The Lite Mountain Axe features a lightweight, titanium head. Weighing in at 16 oz. (60cm), this axe is significantly lighter than steel, but vastly more durable than aluminum, providing the very best balance for racers, through-hikers and any mountaineer that wants a full-strength piolet without the weight of a steel-headed axe. Shaft material is AL. 6061.Images |

Voted 4/5 | I purchased an 80cm model for $30 from Black Dome in Asheville, NC.
The length is nice for someone of my height (6'4"). It feels to be about the same weight as a Black Diamond Raven.
The pick has negative clearance. There is no hole for a carabiner or leash on the head, so you must use one of the lightening holes cut in the pick for the leash. The adze is small, and the hole will accomadate a carabiner. The spike has two holes which do not accomadate a carabiner, except those tiny "not for climbing" ones. ;-)
I like it. I enjoy the added length, on slopes around 40 degrees or so, and less. | | Posted Sep 24, 2007 3:46 pm |
