Product Description

From the BD website:
"Born to handle more copious amounts of gear on an alpine ascent, the Predator is designed for mobility, maximum function and durability. Built with a combination of 420d nylon and 1260 Ballistics for unsurpassed abrasion resistance, the Predator’s exterior features a cold-weather shock cord, mesh helmet holder, ice tool PickPockets, and a crampon pouch. The removable V-flex suspension provides comfort under heavy loads by efficiently transferring weight without restricting freedom of movement. The lid is also removeable for stripped down summit pushes."

BD Predator page - Black Diamond Products

Brand new empty Predator

Changes between new and old Predator packs

Old, loaded BD Predator and NF pack

New:
-Thicker padding on all straps
-Side zippers
-Better ice axe loops (flaps); old were shock cord.
-All straps sewn on, instead of attached to rings
-Zipper on front of top lid
-Top lid removes via sliders instead of side-release buckles

Old:
-Zipper opening on back of pack for removing things (I guess).
-Lashing slots on side-flap things

It's basically a completely different pack. I like my old one, but I do feel the new additions are improvements.

TacoDelRioBetter than ALICE

Voted 5/5

Before this, I was using my Army issue ALICE pack, which is pretty poorly designed for use with human torsos. This pack is quite nice, not as nice as Arc'teryx military packs or their Acrux/Bora/Etc's, but it's also something like 1/4 the price.

A nice pack. Nothing special about it, which is a positive. Less crap. Not a fan of the zippered thing on the inside of the back, as it rubs at times, but they've since phased that feature out.

Great weight, features for ice cragging or day-long alpine routes. The ice axe attachment features are the best I've seen on ice packs, but the best feature I like is the mesh helmet attachment in the lid - your helmet rides on top and when not in use can be stashed for nice, clean lines.

JFoxGreat Pack!

Voted 5/5

I got the 45L version and its what I've been looking for! My pack quest has been similar to Goldilocks' quest in that I first got a Gregory Whitney...too big! Then I got a BD Speed...too small! Now I gots me a Predator...just right!
