Product DescriptionForest Service "Visitor" Maps are $9-10 and there is one for every National Forest in the U.S. Sometimes National Forests have 2-3 maps - for example, the Los Padres National Forest has two maps because it covers such a huge area. Maps are the definite source for Forest Roads and Facilities. Also included are trails, but these maps generally aren't topographic.
The Forest Service also produces maps for many of its wilderness areas. These generally provide a better scale for wilderness trails and are topographic.
To purchase maps, visit your nearest ranger station or go online to www.nationalforeststore.com You can also buy annual passes here.
Region 5 (California) also has its forest maps available online at this link.
Also check out this link for other forest maps that may be available online.

Voted 5/5 | I find them most helpful when navigating confusing mazes of Forest Service dirt roads! I like the plasticized maps better than the paper versions. They cost $1 more but are well worth the extra $. | | Posted Mar 14, 2007 6:14 pm | | Bill Reed | I remember when they were free!
Voted 5/5 | I also have many and try to update my collection when I can. They are very accurate and indispensable when traveling, particularly when you're driving, in the National Forests of the US. Great info from Sequoia on how to get em'. | | Posted Mar 28, 2007 12:16 am | | Cedar | I used to remember
Voted 5/5 | I used carried them around everywhere just a few years ago. You've got to have them ready. | | Posted Jul 15, 2007 4:33 pm |
