An extremely light semi-rigid 12-point crampon. Made entirely from 7075 aluminium alloy, including the adjustment screw and the new heel lever. The new design and construction provides an improved flex resistance. Designed for classic and competitive ski touring, hiking and classic alpine routes. Unsuitable for ice climbing, mixed terrain and technical applications. Images |

Voted 5/5 | Fred and I just got these crampons - we are getting very lazy in our old age about carrying heavy gear that is overkill on routes that have some glaciers or snowfields to cross. These are perfect for this use.
They are easy to get on. Even though there is a little slop with my narrow heeled boot, I feel totally stable on them. Have gone up and down some fairly steep stuff (35+ deg) as if I had on my ice climbing crampons. Although they are supposedly not made for mixed terrain, have crossed short talus sections in them with no problems nor damage.
Because they are so light and quick to take on and off, I see them as having no excuse not to take crampons when you aren't sure they will be needed.
They make holes in my pants just fine, too! | | Posted Jul 7, 2004 4:20 pm | | CharlesD | good, but specialized | |
Voted 3/5 | CAMP is good at making lightweight gear and these are no exception. I've got the XLC470 model which is identical to the 390 but has a hybrid, newmatic-type binding (heel bail with toe strap). As Moni says, they're light and compact and there's no excuse not to take them with you on anything where they might be useful. They go on easily and fit securely. I've used them on steep snow to good effect. On moderate or steep ice, they are definitely lacking: aluminum doesn't hold an edge and there is noticable flex in the front-points. Better than nothing, but I wouldn't want to be on lead on WI3 on these things. But the extreme light weight means that they're perfect for those times when you think, "well, I might need traction, better bring them along." | | Posted May 2, 2005 2:57 pm |
