This is a great light weight shovel that fits into your pack and is great around a winter camp. However, as an avalanche shovel, it just would not be sturdy enough to dig through the hard snow that forms after an avalanche has settled. I would have put this shovel under camping gear.

As Moni said its not suited for avalanche rescue (unfortunately there is no camping gear category).

As a winder camping shovel now it’s a great tool. The lightest shovel ever, can also be used as an anchor, stove base, emergency splint and more.

It packs easily rolled around the sleeping pad or rolled on itself and tied.

You might want to chop hard snow with your axe before you shovel it.
